Homemade Peanut Butter

Peanut butter is extremely easy to make from scratch and will help you avoid all the added sugar and preservatives you get from off the shelf products.

Time: 7 min
Equipment: Blender, Jam Jar, Spatula

Ingredients
Peanuts - 1 cup
Oil - 2 tablespoons
Honey - 2 tablespoons

Note: Coconut or Flax seed oils are the healthiest oil choices, otherwise use peanut oil or any vegetable oil. I will post an article on how to choose your oils when cooking soon.

Instructions

  1. If your peanuts are not already roasted, then remove the shell and put them in the oven for 10 min at 350°C/170°F turning every few minutes
  2. Blend peanuts until crushed up at a fast speed, you may need to scrape the sides and bottom with a spatula or chop stick and re-blend
  3. Add the oil and honey
  4. Blend for a further 30 seconds at a slow speed, pushing down any of the peanut butter stuck to the sides and bottom and then blend for a further 30 seconds
  5. If the peanut butter is not smooth enough for you, add more oil
  6. If the peanut butter is not sweet enough for you, add more honey

Sustainability
Reuse a jam or sauce jar. When buying items from the supermarket, select items that are packaged in reusable containers.

Money Saving Tip:
Find a local distributer of nuts and buy in bulk. In singapore I use Phoon Huat in Singapore to buy bulk seeds, nuts and dried fruit.

Nutrition Info
Peanuts are a great source of protein and healthy fat. Remember if you're trying to lose body fat you should not eat more than one handful of healthy fats per day. These fats should come from nuts, cheese, avocados, fish, soy milk and flaxseeds. I will post an article on healthy and unhealthy fats soon.
